Looe Community Academy Celebrates Mrs Day’s Triumph on the World Stage

Looe Community Academy came together in celebration to honour an extraordinary achievement—our very own Mrs Sam Day’s success representing Team GB at the World Championships in Ice Swimming. The atmosphere was electric as students and staff gathered to recognise not only her sporting excellence but also the resilience and determination that brought her to this moment.
Mrs Day’s journey is one of true perseverance. Facing setbacks, learning from them, and pushing beyond limits she once thought defined her, she has exemplified the very essence of a growth mindset. Her success stands as an inspiration to all, proving that through dedication, sacrifice, and trust in the process, we can break through barriers and achieve greatness.
In recognition of her outstanding accomplishment, we were proud to present Mrs Day with the Performance Shield—an award that marks the beginning of a new tradition at Looe Community Academy. This shield will serve as a symbol of excellence, awarded to those who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to growth and belief in their own potential.
Addressing the Academy, Mrs Day expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support she has received throughout her journey. In an emotional speech, she reflected on the experience of competing on an international stage, medalling for Team GB, and fulfilling a lifelong dream.
An Unforgettable Welcome: A Message from Mrs Day
I’m deeply grateful for the incredible welcome and support I’ve received. It’s been an overwhelming experience, and I feel truly honoured to have represented Team GB at the World Championships.
Attending, competing, and medalling on such a prestigious stage has been a dream come true. This journey has been a powerful reminder: why shouldn’t we dare to dream and take the steps to make something life-changing happen? Why shouldn’t we be the ones to succeed—to win medals, host book signings, discover new medicines, or accomplish whatever sets our hearts on fire?
Anything is possible when we put our hearts and minds into action. We are all capable of achieving the extraordinary. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this unforgettable moment—I couldn’t have done it without you.
Mrs Day’s achievement is a beacon of inspiration for our students, reminding us all that success is where preparation meets opportunity. As a school, we are incredibly proud of her and look forward to seeing where her journey takes her next. Congratulations, Mrs Day—what an achievement!
