More ‘Good’ news for Looe Community Academy…
Building on a long history of successive ‘Good’ Ofsted ratings, the staff and students of Looe Community Academy demonstrated once more that the school has maintained its academic pedigree when their Ofsted inspection confirmed that the Academy continues to provide a good quality of education. The inspection report went on to specifically highlight the Academy’s strong safeguarding culture and to say how students feel safe at their school, enjoying positive relationships across the year groups.
The Academy’s Headteacher, Scott Yalden, was absolutely delighted with the outcome, saying “Our results have been consistently strong, with our latest value-added score of +0.26 being 6th highest in Cornwall, and, had we been a Plymouth school, we would have been 2nd highest.
“Our motto is ‘Bydh gwella gylli’ (‘Be the best you can be’). We set high expectations for our students and our staff, and together we all achieve in an environment that is supportive, caring and compassionate; one where everyone is valued.
“Our students can take pride in the wonderful feedback they received from the inspectors, who specifically commented that they ‘speak eloquently’ and are ‘articulate, positive ambassadors’.
“While it is always pleasing to secure the academic endorsement of what we do here at our warm and friendly Academy, it was especially satisfying to hear that our constant drive to look after the welfare of our students was particularly noted by the inspectors, who reaffirmed our strong safeguarding culture and noted how ambitious we are for improving outcomes of our SEND students.”
Kathy Iles, Chair of Governors, said “The fantastic report from Ofsted confirms our view that the Academy continues to provide each student with an excellent, well-rounded and enjoyable educational experience that secures academic achievement, engenders a love of learning and develops their life skills, providing a strong foundation for their personal journey beyond secondary education.
“We also view this as an external endorsement of the ability of our leadership team to secure our ambitious improvement strategies that will make our Academy, and the outcomes for our students, even better.
“Furthermore, it demonstrates that we have maintained our focus on placing our students and their education foremost as we have tackled, head-on, the tough challenges of the enduring pressures on educational finance.
“The future is very positive at Looe Community Academy.”
SMART's Chief Executive Officer, Dan Buckley, said "We are really pleased that OFSTED have recognised the excellent work of staff, students and governors at Looe. We are proud that all recent school inspections in the Trust have achieved a good rating and look forward to the benefits of even greater collaboration in the future.”
